Turn last send's mistakes into a six-line pre-send checklist
- For Freelancers and creators
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You send newsletters for several small clients and keep making the same mistakes. Write a prompt that turns the post-mortem into a pre-send checklist: exactly 6 lines, each starting with "- [ ]", each a check phrased as an action under 12 words, covering only mistakes that actually happened. Plain text, no intro or sign-off.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Adding generic best practices. The AI pads the list with checks that never happened. Try: Say: "Cover only mistakes that actually happened in the post-mortem."
- Wrong checkbox format. The AI uses plain bullets or numbers. Try: Show the format: "- [ ] Check the subject matches the content".
- Long checks. Items run to full sentences. Try: Say: "Each under 10 words, phrased as an action."
- Too many bullets. AI turns everything into long bullet lists. Try: State the bullet cap exactly.
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the checkbox format
- Sets the count
- Limits to real mistakes
- Phrases as actions
- Asks for no extras
