About this exercise

Cobble & Pine's return policy is written in legal-sounding language. Rewrite it for the website in a warm, plain voice (we and you, contractions) without changing any term. Write a prompt that keeps all five terms with their exact numbers, adds no new promises like "no questions asked" or "free returns", and runs under 90 words in 4 to 5 sentences, plain text, no headings.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Adding friendly promises. Warm copy tends to say 'hassle-free' or 'free returns'. Try: Say: "No new promises: don't say hassle-free, free returns or no questions asked."
  • Losing a term in the rewrite. The AI drops the damaged-item exception or the 7 business days. Try: Add: "Keep all five terms with their exact numbers."
  • Staying stiff. The AI keeps 'merchandise' and 'pursuant to'. Try: Describe the voice: we and you, contractions, plain words.
  • Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Describes the voice
  • Keeps all terms and numbers
  • Bans new promises
  • Sets length and sentences
