Turn a client's contradicting feedback into a final revision list
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're a freelance web copywriter, and your client sent feedback across five messages, changing her mind twice. You want exactly 5 numbered revisions, each starting with the page name, under 70 words, plain text. Where she contradicted herself, follow her latest message, and leave out comments that aren't requests. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Following the first message. The AI lists every request in order and misses that two were reversed later. Try: Add: "Where she changed her mind, follow her latest message."
- Not giving the line shape. The AI groups changes by message or day, so pages get mixed up. Try: Add: "Start each revision with the page name, like 'Home: shorten the headline'."
- Including non-requests. The AI turns opinions and praise into to-dos, like changing the blue. Try: Add: "Only actual requests for my copy. Skip the design comment and praise."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes headings per page with bold labels. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered lines, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 70 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 9 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many revisions
- Follows the latest message
- Starts with the page name
- Skips non-requests
- Sets a word limit
