Turn a hospital policy memo into 3 bullets for floor staff
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your hospital sent a long memo about the new visitor and badge policy, and your unit's nurses and aides need the short version on the break room board. You want at most 3 bullets under 60 words, plain text, with the start date in the first bullet. Use the corrected start date, and leave out the parts only for administrators. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. Jan 5 is in bold-looking text at the top; the fix is at the bottom. Try: Add: "Use the corrected start date, Jan 12."
- Forgetting who reads it. The AI includes admin-only items like budgets and audits. Try: Add: "For nurses and aides. Skip the admin-only section."
- Dropping the key rules. The AI keeps the background and drops the visitor limit. Try: Add: "Include the badge rule and the 2-visitor limit."
- Not limiting the bullets. The AI rewrites the memo with headings. Try: Be exact: "At most 3 bullets, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 14 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Limits the bullets
- Uses the correction
- Says who reads it
- Skips admin items
- Puts the date first
