Build a benefits fair checklist after a vendor cancels
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're organizing your company's benefits fair and want a prep checklist for the HR team. You want exactly 5 numbered lines sorted by due date, each as date - task - owner, under 70 words, plain text. Drop the tasks for the vendor that canceled, use the room change, and leave out the budget notes. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Keeping the canceled vendor. The parking pass task is in your list. Try: Add: "ClearSight canceled; drop their tasks."
- Missing the room change. Cafeteria B is in the signage task. Try: Add: "The fair moved to the Training Center."
- Not sorting by date. The AI keeps your list order. Try: Add: "Sort by due date."
- Including budget notes. The AI adds dollar amounts to tasks. Try: Add: "Leave out budget notes. Plain text, 5 numbered lines."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 70 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 9 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Drops the canceled vendor
- Uses the room change
- Sorts by date
- Sets a word limit
