Log the yearbook committee's final decisions with vote counts
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're the yearbook committee secretary and keep a decision log for your advisor. From today's meeting notes, you want exactly 3 numbered lines, one per final decision, each as Decision (vote count), under 40 words, plain text. Log a revote's result instead of the first vote, and leave out anything that ended in a tie or was tabled. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the revote. The first theme vote is written out clearly, and the AI keeps it. Try: Add: "If something was revoted, log the final result."
- Logging ties and tabled items. The AI treats every agenda item as a decision. Try: Add: "Skip anything tied or tabled."
- Dropping the votes. The AI writes the decision without the count, which the advisor wants. Try: Add: "Put the vote count in parentheses after each decision."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes minutes with headings and full sentences. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 40 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 9 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Handles the revote
- Skips ties and tabled
- Asks for vote counts
- Sets a word limit
