Boil a long first-day email down to the 3 things you need
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You start a new job Monday, and HR sent a long welcome email. You want a note on your phone of at most 3 sentences, plain text, with where and when to show up first. Use the corrected parking info from HR's follow-up, and skip the company history and benefits details you'll get later. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. The garage is in the main email; the fix came Friday. Try: Add: "Use the corrected parking: Elm St lot."
- Starting with the history. The AI follows the email and opens with 1962. Try: Add: "First sentence: when and where to show up."
- Including benefits. The AI lists the benefits plans. Try: Add: "Skip history and benefits."
- Asking for a summary. The AI writes bullets with headings. Try: Be exact: "At most 3 sentences, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the correction
- Puts when/where first
- Skips extras
- Limits the sentences
- Asks for plain text
