Report a warehouse team's week to your director with fixed numbers
Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You manage a warehouse shift, and your director wants this week's numbers in Slack. You want at most 3 bullets under 50 words, plain text, each with a number and how it compares to target. One count in your notes was corrected by the system admin, so use the corrected figure, and leave out the shift gossip. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. 2,610 is in your notes; the fix came at 4pm. Try: Add: "Use the corrected order count, 2,430."
- Dropping the targets. The AI gives numbers without comparing. Try: Add: "Compare each number to its target."
- Hiding the incident. The AI leaves out the safety incident to sound positive. Try: Add: "Include the safety incident."
- Not limiting the bullets. The AI writes a long update with gossip. Try: Be exact: "At most 3 bullets, plain text, no shift chatter."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 11 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Limits the bullets
- Uses the correction
- Compares to targets
- Says who reads it
- Skips gossip
