List the kids' activity fees due this month with a total
Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're paying your kids' activity fees for January and want one list for your budget app. You want exactly 5 numbered lines: 4 fees sorted by due date, then a total line showing the sum, under 50 words, plain text. Use the sibling discount where it applies, and leave out the activity your kid quit. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the discount. The discount is a note under Ben's line, and the AI keeps $120. Try: Add: "Apply the $20 sibling discount to Ben's swim fee."
- Including the quit activity. Art club is in the list. Try: Add: "Ava quit art club; leave it out."
- Not showing the total math. The AI gives a total without the sum. Try: Add: "End with a total line that shows the addition."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI makes a table by kid. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered lines: 4 fees by due date, then the total. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 50 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Applies the discount
- Drops the quit activity
- Asks for a total
- Sorts by date
