Build a parent curriculum night agenda that fits 30 minutes
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You teach 4th grade and have a 30-minute slot at spring curriculum night. You want exactly 5 numbered agenda items with minutes that add up to 30, under 60 words, plain text, for the handout parents get at the door. Include the principal's required item, and leave out anything about individual students or teacher-only business. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- No time math. The AI suggests a 45-minute agenda or leaves minutes off. Try: Add: "Minutes on each item, adding up to exactly 30."
- Missing the required item. The AI builds the agenda from your topics and forgets the principal's email. Try: Add: "Include the 5-minute cell phone policy segment."
- Forgetting who reads it. The AI mixes in your private notes about students. Try: Add: "This is a parent handout. Leave out the private notes."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes a full handout with headings. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered items, plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many items
- Sets the time math
- Includes the required item
- Says who reads it
- Hides private notes
