Boil a long district email down to 3 sentences for your team
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You lead the 7th-grade team, and the district sent a long email about the end-of-term grading window. Your teammates want at most 3 sentences, plain text, with the grade deadline in the first sentence. The email corrects itself near the end, so use the corrected date, and skip the parts that only apply to high schools. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. The original deadline appears first and looks official. Try: Add: "Use the corrected deadline from the end of the email."
- Not saying what goes first. The AI follows the email's order and opens with thank-yous. Try: Add: "First sentence: the grade deadline."
- Including everything. The AI covers high school items and the PD day to be complete, and drops the comment rule. Try: Add: "We're a middle school team. Skip high-school-only items. Include the comment rule."
- Asking for a summary. The AI writes a bulleted recap with bold headings. Try: Be exact: "At most 3 sentences, plain text."
