Give field trip chaperones a timed plan they can follow
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're taking two 5th-grade classes to the science museum and need a plan to text the 6 parent chaperones. You want exactly 6 numbered lines in time order, each starting with a time, under 90 words, plain text. Use the bus company's new pickup time, and leave out teacher-only items the chaperones don't need. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the bus change. The old 1:00 departure is in the plan, so the AI keeps it. Try: Add: "Use the bus company's new 1:30 museum pickup."
- Forgetting who reads it. The AI includes everything, so parents see your grading and sub plans. Try: Add: "This goes to parent chaperones. Leave out teacher-only to-dos."
- Dropping the rules. Squeezed for space, the AI cuts the phone and gift shop rules. Try: Add: "Put the phone and gift shop rules in the right lines."
- Letting the AI pick the layout. The AI writes a friendly email with headings. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 6 numbered lines, each starting with a time. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 10 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Says who reads it
- Uses the new bus time
- Leaves out teacher items
- Starts lines with times
