Weigh two internship offers with your own scoring rules

About this exercise

Compare two internship offers using your scoring: pay +3 if over $20/hour, otherwise -3; work setup +2 if remote or hybrid, -2 if fully in office; mentor +2 if an assigned mentor, -2 if none. Write exactly 3 numbered lines: one per offer showing each score and the total (like +3 +2 -2 = +3), then 3. Pick: the higher total. One offer's pay was corrected by HR. Plain text, under 80 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Not giving your scoring. Without your rules, the AI writes balanced pros and cons and won't pick. Try: Add the rules: "pay +3 if over $20/hour, else -3; remote or hybrid +2 ..."
  • Missing the pay correction. The offer notes say $22 and the AI doesn't read the HR email. Try: Add: "Use HR's corrected $19/hour for Brightwell."
  • Letting your gut sneak in. The AI weighs the roommate and free lunches even though they aren't in your scoring. Try: Add: "Score only pay, setup and mentor."
  • An essay instead of a score. The AI writes headers, tables and a long recommendation. Try: Show it: "1. Brightwell: -3 +2 +2 = +1". Plain text.
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting words, so a total word cap usually lands over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 20 words."

What a strong prompt includes
