Pace five units across a semester around blocked weeks
- For Teachers
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Pace your 5 units across the 15-week semester in order, skipping fall break and state testing week, with no unit split by a blocked week. Write exactly 5 numbered lines like '1. Unit 1 Ratios: Weeks 1-3', then one unnumbered line 'Blocked: Week X (reason), Week Y (reason)'. The testing week moved, so use the district's new week. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using last year's testing week. Your list says Week 10, and the AI misses the district update. Try: Add: "Testing moved to Week 12."
- Splitting a unit. The AI lets a unit run across a blocked week. Try: Add: "No unit is split by a blocked week."
- No blocked line. The AI hides the blocked weeks, so you can't check the math. Try: Add: "End with 'Blocked: Week 6 (fall break), Week 12 (testing)'."
- A table with ideas. The AI makes a markdown table and adds activity ideas. Try: Show it: "1. Unit 1 Ratios: Weeks 1-3". Plain text.
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting words, so a total word cap usually lands over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 8 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the new testing week
- Keeps units whole
- Adds a blocked line
