Check which of your jobs the payment protection policy covers
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You have 4 situations on a freelance platform and want to know which are covered by its payment protection. You want one numbered line per situation, under 50 words total, each starting Covered, Not covered, or Policy doesn't say, then the section in parentheses where one applies. Use only the current policy, plain text, nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old window. The 2024 note says 60 days, which would make situation 4 look covered. Try: Say: "Use only the Sept 2026 policy."
- Not applying every section. A funded milestone looks covered until you check the dispute deadline. Try: Add: "Check every section for each situation."
- Getting advice. The AI adds tips on handling the client, which buries the answers. Try: Say: "Output only the 4 lines."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands 10-20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 8 words."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives exact labels
- Names the current policy
- Asks for sections
- Sets a length limit
- Asks for plain text
