Answer your offer questions from the benefits summary
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You got an offer from Pinecrest Logistics and have 4 questions before you accept. You want 4 numbered answers under 60 words in total, in plain text, using only the benefits summary and HR's correction email. Where the documents don't answer a question, write "Not in the documents" instead of guessing, and add nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the correction. The printed summary says 12 days, and the AI often uses it without reading the email below. Try: Say: "Where HR's email corrects the summary, use the correction."
- Letting the AI fill gaps. Remote work isn't in either document, so the AI guesses from what companies usually offer. Try: Add: "If the documents don't say, write Not in the documents."
- Not asking it to apply the rule. The AI repeats the policy wording instead of working out the date for your start day. Try: Say: "Work out the date for my Dec 1 start."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands 10-20% over. Try: Cap each answer: "each answer under 12 words."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Handles the correction
- Says what to do when it's missing
- Sets a length limit
- Says to use only your sources
- Asks for plain text
