Shortlist math tutors that fit your budget and schedule
Practice: Setting limits and rules. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your son needs a math tutor, and you have 5 options from neighbors and flyers. Your requirements: in person, $40 an hour or less, a certified teacher, and available Tuesday or Thursday after 4 p.m. You want exactly 2 numbered picks, each with the hourly rate and a reason under 12 words, using only your notes, plain text, nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not giving every requirement. The AI favors the cheapest tutor or the one your son likes. Try: Say: "Must meet all four: in person, $40 or less, certified teacher, Tue or Thu after 4."
- Counting a rumor. The AI may worry about Brightpath's possible price increase and drop it. Try: Add: "Use only confirmed details."
- Getting a long comparison. The AI reviews all 5 options, burying the 2 that fit. Try: Say: "Output only the 2 picks."
- Not saying how many. The AI decides the length itself and usually returns more picks than you can use. Try: Be exact: "exactly 2 numbered picks."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in a text to your partner. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
