Pull page-cited facts from a prospect's annual report
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're pitching fleet-tracking software to Calder Freight and skimmed their annual report. You want exactly 3 numbered facts about their fleet or delivery operations, each under 15 words and ending with the page, like "(p. 12)". Use only facts the report states as already true, not plans or forecasts, and use the corrected figure where the report corrects itself. Plain text, nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Mixing facts and goals. The CEO's growth goals sound like facts, and the AI often lists them as key numbers. Try: Say: "Only facts stated as already true, no plans or forecasts."
- Missing the restatement. The correction is buried in the notes on p. 22, so the AI copies the 7 terminals from p. 9. Try: Add: "If the report corrects a number, use the corrected one."
- Not asking for pages. Without page numbers, you can't point Karen to the source in the meeting. Try: Show it: "End each fact with (p. N)."
- Not saying how many. The AI decides the length itself and usually returns more facts than you can use. Try: Be exact: "exactly 3 numbered facts."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in your CRM notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
