Check your planned AI uses against the district policy
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Before the semester, you want to check 4 ways you plan to use AI against your district's new policy. You want exactly 4 numbered lines, each starting Allowed, Not allowed, or Policy doesn't say, then the policy section in parentheses where one applies. Use only the 2026 policy, plain text, and nothing else.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old draft. The 2024 draft banned AI grading help, and the AI may still apply it. Try: Say: "Use only the Aug 2026 policy."
- Missing the privacy rule. Making lab groups sounds harmless, so the AI may not notice the roster has student names. Try: Add: "Check every use against every section."
- Getting a lecture. The AI adds general AI-in-education advice and buries the answers. Try: Say: "Output only the 4 lines."
- Not saying how many. The AI decides the length itself and usually returns more lines, one per use than you can use. Try: Be exact: "exactly 4 numbered lines, one per use."
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold labels and headings, which show up as stray symbols in your planning notes. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no headings."
