Compute net revenue retention by segment and sort it
- For Revenue operations
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Make a markdown table with columns Segment | Start ARR | NRR, one row per segment sorted from lowest NRR to highest, then an Overall row last. NRR = (start ARR + expansion - contraction - churn) divided by start ARR, as a whole-number percent. Do not include new-customer ARR. Amounts in $M, no bold, nothing outside the table, under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Including new-customer ARR. The AI adds the new ARR column. Try: Add: "Do not include new-customer ARR."
- Using gross retention. The AI follows the slide's 100%. Try: Add: "NRR includes expansion for every row."
- Wrong sort or order. The AI orders by size. Try: Add: "Sort lowest NRR to highest, Overall last."
- Bold and commentary. The AI bolds Overall and adds notes. Try: Add: "No bold; nothing outside the table."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the columns
- Gives the formula
- Excludes new customers
