About this exercise

Turn fieldwork notes into a CSV issue log for the audit team's tracker. Write a prompt for one code block holding the header issue_id,area,observation,owner_to_confirm and one row per exception (not for controls that worked). The area is one of users, reviews or accounts: leavers and contractors are users, the missing Q3 review is reviews, and the shared admin account is accounts. Number ids IA-01, IA-02 and so on in note order. No commas inside values, observations under 15 words, and owner_to_confirm is the person named in the notes or the word unconfirmed. No text outside the code block.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Including passed controls. AI adds a row for the backup test and password settings. Try: Say: "One row per exception only; skip controls that worked."
  • Owner guessed. AI names Sam Pruitt for every row. Try: Say: "Owner is the person the notes name for that area, else unconfirmed."
  • Commas break the CSV. AI writes commas inside observations. Try: Say: "No commas inside any value."
  • Wrong number of code blocks. AI splits output into several blocks or adds extra examples. Try: Say "one single code block".
  • Code block too long. AI pads the block with extra rows or comments. Try: Say "no more than N lines in the block, no comments".
  • Chatter around the block. AI adds an intro and a closing explanation. Try: Say "no text outside the code block".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the header
  • One code block
  • Exceptions only
