Ask a client for a testimonial without writing it for them
- For Freelancers and creators
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write a message asking a happy client for a short testimonial. Plain text under 110 words, starting "Hi Priti,". Give her 3 prompt questions (dash bullets) she can answer in a sentence each, say it takes about 5 minutes, and make it easy to say no. Do not write a sample quote or put words in her mouth, and don't mention payment or discounts.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Writing the quote for her. The AI drafts a testimonial to approve. Try: Add: "Don't write a sample quote; ask 3 questions instead."
- No easy exit. The AI doesn't let her decline. Try: Add: "Make it easy to say no."
- Offering incentives. The AI offers a discount on future work. Try: Add: "No payment or discounts."
- Long message. The AI writes a long email with headings. Try: Add: "Plain text under 80 words, exactly 3 dash bullets."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the opener
- Asks for 3 questions
- Adds time and exit
- Bans a sample quote
- Bans incentives
