Make a 6-question checklist for a lost-deal interview
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You are calling a buyer who chose a competitor. Write a checklist of exactly 6 questions, each on its own line starting with "- [ ]". Every question is neutral (it does not suggest an answer), under 15 words, and none asks the buyer to reconsider or hints at a discount. Put the question about who else weighed in on the decision first.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Leading questions. The AI writes "Was our price too high?" which plants the answer. Try: Add: "Every question must be neutral, not suggest an answer."
- Too many questions. The AI writes 10 to 12 questions with sections. Try: Say: "Exactly 6 lines, each starting with - [ ]."
- Turning it into a win-back. The AI adds "Would you reconsider if..." Try: Add: "No questions asking them to reconsider or about discounts."
- Bold and headings. The AI adds a bold intro and headings. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no intro."
What a strong prompt includes
- Fixes the format
- Sets the count
- Requires neutral questions
- Puts decision-makers first
- Bans win-back asks
