Make flashcards on the CIA triad from your lecture notes

  • For College students
  • You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
  • Time about 5 minutes

About this exercise

Make flashcards from your intro security lecture notes: exactly 4 numbered cards like '1. Q: ... | A: ...', one for each of confidentiality, integrity and availability, plus one on the triad itself. Each answer uses the lecture's example, and where the professor corrected an example, use the correction. Plain text, under 120 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the old slide example. The AI picks 'a stolen laptop' for availability from the slide. Try: Say: "Where the professor corrected an example, use the correction."
  • Textbook examples. The AI uses its own examples, but your exam asks for the lecture's. Try: Add: "Use the lecture's example in each answer."
  • No card shape. The AI writes a study guide with headings. Try: Show it: "1. Q: ... | A: ..."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 120 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Ask for less than the limit and cap each line: "each line under 15 words, under 90 words total."
  • Letting markdown in. AI adds bold and headings by default, and in your flashcard app they show up as stray symbols. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Uses the lecture examples
  • Uses the correction
  • Shows the card shape
  • Says exactly how many
  • Asks for plain text
