Build a side-by-side comparison for an art history slide ID
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your Art History midterm has slide comparisons, and you want a quick sheet for two paintings from lecture. Get exactly 4 numbered lines in the form 'Feature: Work A vs. Work B' covering date, medium, subject and technique, each under 20 words, plain text. Use only the lecture notes, including the date your professor corrected.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for a comparison. The AI writes an essay-style comparison, which is too slow to review before a slide ID. Try: Show the line: "Feature: Work A vs. Work B".
- Not saying how many lines. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more lines than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered lines."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 18 words."
- Missing the correction. The slide's typo is still in your notes, next to the fix. Try: Add: "Use the corrected date for Work A."
- Letting in gossip. The AI includes everything in your notes, including the TA's unconfirmed story. Try: Add: "Only facts from lecture. Skip the gossip."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many lines
- Shows the line shape
- Names the 4 features
- Uses the correction
- Says to use only the material
