Make cards on periodic table groups and their properties

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

Your Chemistry quiz asks about the main periodic table groups. Make exactly 4 numbered cards in the form 'Group name (group number): key property | example element', each under 18 words, plain text. Use only the 4 groups in your notes and Ms. Ruiz's correction about noble gases.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking for a study guide. The AI writes paragraphs for every group, including ones not on your quiz. Try: Show the shape: "Halogens (Group 17): very reactive nonmetals | chlorine".
  • Not saying how many cards. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more cards than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered cards."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each card: "each under 15 words."
  • Missing the correction. Your backwards note about noble gases is still in the material. Try: Add: "Noble gases are the least reactive, per Ms. Ruiz."
  • Using the wrong example. The AI may list hydrogen as an alkali metal because it sits in Group 1. Try: Add: "Use only the examples in my notes, not hydrogen."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says how many cards
  • Shows the card shape
  • Uses the correction
  • Rules out hydrogen
  • Says to use only the material
