Condense a music lecture into sonata form sections
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your Music Appreciation listening exam asks you to identify sections of sonata form. Get exactly 3 numbered lines, one per main section in order, each in the form 'Section: what happens | what to listen for', each under 25 words, plain text. Use only the lecture notes, including the professor's correction about the development.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for an explanation. The AI writes a full music history explanation, not something to use while listening. Try: Show the shape: "Section: what happens | what to listen for".
- Not saying how many lines. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more lines than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each part under 10 words."
- Missing the correction. Your wrong note about the development is still in the material. Try: Add: "Use Dr. Ferreira's correction about the development."
- Adding extras. The AI adds the intro, the coda and facts about Mozart. Try: Add: "Only the 3 main sections, only from my notes."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many sections
- Shows the line shape
- Uses the correction
- Sets a length limit
- Says to use only the material
