Check your quiz answer key against the textbook

Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You wrote a 5-question answer key for your 7th grade social studies quiz late at night and want to check it before copies go out. Get exactly 5 numbered lines, each labeled exactly Correct or Check this, and for any Check this, what the textbook passage says instead in under 15 words, plain text. Judge only by the textbook passage, not general knowledge.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking if it's right. The AI rewrites the whole key with extra context and history, which takes longer to check. Try: Give labels: "Label each Correct or Check this."
  • Not saying how many lines. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more lines than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered lines."
  • Not naming the standard. The AI checks against what it knows, which may not match your textbook. Try: Add: "Judge only by the textbook passage."
  • No fix for the errors. A 'Check this' with no reason sends you back to reread the whole passage. Try: Add: "For each Check this, say what the passage says instead."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each fix: "under 12 words."
  • Forgetting where it will be read. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes
