Shape rough notes into a STAR answer about conflict
- For Job seekers
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Your interview prep question is 'Tell me about a time you handled conflict.' From your notes, get exactly four lines starting Situation:, Task:, Action: and Result:, first person, one sentence each under 22 words, plain text, using only facts from your notes and the corrected number.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the wrong number. Your notes contain 1 and 2; only one is right. Try: Add: "Use 2 a month, per Ms. Ortega's email."
- Not first person. The AI describes 'the employee' or 'the team'. Try: Say: "First person: I did..."
- Loose shape. Without exact labels you get a paragraph. Try: Say: "Four lines: Situation:, Task:, Action:, Result:, one sentence each."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 12 words."
- Forgetting where it's going. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the four labels
- Says first person
- Limits each line
- Uses the correct number
- Cuts irrelevant details
