Build a test-day cram sheet with Formulas, Watch out, Skip

  • For College students
  • You practice Asking for a format you can use
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Make a cram sheet for tomorrow's Statistics exam in exactly three sections headed Formulas, Watch out and Skip, plain text, under 120 words, using only your professor's email. There is no formula sheet on the exam. Use the corrected z value.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the typo. The email's first z* value is wrong and the AI copies it. Try: Add: "Use z* = 1.96, per the correction."
  • No fixed sections. Without exact headings you get one long summary. Try: Say: "Three sections: Formulas, Watch out, Skip."
  • Skipping the Skip list. The AI includes everything it knows about stats. Try: Add: "Skip lists what is NOT on the exam."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 12 words."
  • Forgetting where it's going. AI formats for a screen, with bold and headings that show up as stray symbols. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the three sections
  • Uses the professor's email
  • Uses the correction
  • Limits the length
  • Says plain text
