Get a historical classroom scene with no modern objects
- For Teachers
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You teach 4th grade history and want an illustration of a one-room schoolhouse in 1885 for a slide, made with Gemini. Get Claude to write one paste-ready prompt, plain text, under 120 words: a prompt paragraph using only the details from your notes, then a last line starting "Avoid:" that lists at least 5 modern objects. It must say 16:9, and the children must be illustrated, not photos of real people.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Generic old-timey scene. The AI draws a vague 'old school' with modern desks and chalkboards from any era. Try: Add the details: "slates, iron stove, benches, oil lamps."
- No list of anachronisms. Image tools sneak in electric lights, plastic chairs or paper notebooks. Try: Add a last line: "Avoid: tablets, electric lights, plastic, paper notebooks, whiteboards."
- Photo-realistic kids. A realistic photo of 1885 children looks like a real historical photo, which it isn't. Try: Add: "Picture-book illustration, not a photo."
- Wrong shape. Without 16:9, the image won't fill the slide. Try: Add: "16:9."
- History lesson instead of prompt. The AI explains 1885 schools with headings. Try: Add: "Output only the prompt and Avoid line, plain text."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the shape
- Uses the notes' details
- Asks for an illustration
- Lists modern things to avoid
- Stays with the notes
