Check your lab conclusion against the claim-evidence checklist
Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Before turning in your chemistry lab, check your conclusion against your teacher's checklist. Ask for exactly 3 lines labeled 'Claim:', 'Evidence:' and 'Reasoning:', each starting with 'Yes' or 'No' and then one sentence on why, checked against your data table. No rewritten conclusion and nothing else. Write a prompt that gets that check.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking "is this good?". The AI praises the conclusion and suggests general tweaks. Try: Show it: "Exactly 3 lines: Claim: Yes/No - why. Evidence: ... Reasoning: ..."
- Not checking the data. The AI accepts the 32-second average without noticing it includes the bad trial. Try: Add: "Check the evidence against my data table, including Ms. Novak's correction."
- Getting a rewrite. AI hands you a polished conclusion, which isn't your work anymore. Try: Add: "Don't rewrite it. Just Yes or No and why."
- Forgetting where it gets pasted. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as ** and # clutter in your notes. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the checklist labels
- Asks for Yes or No
- Checks the data
- Bans a rewrite
- Asks for plain text
