Fill an award entry's results field with verified numbers

Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

You're entering your campaign for a regional marketing award. The Results field needs exactly 3 numbered results, each in the form 'Metric: before -> after', using only numbers from this campaign. Under 60 words, plain text, no superlatives ('best', 'record-breaking', 'incredible', 'unprecedented'). Write a prompt that gets that field.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Writing a paragraph. The AI writes a glowing narrative that hides the numbers. Try: Show it: "Exactly 3 numbered lines like: 1. Tune-up bookings: 310 -> 540."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each line: "each under 10 words."
  • Using the biggest number. The website jump is impressive, so the AI uses it, but it's from a different campaign. Try: Add: "Only Ride Local numbers. Leave out the fall website traffic."
  • Hype words. AI award entries say "record-breaking" and "incredible", which judges distrust. Try: Ban them: "No best, record-breaking, incredible or unprecedented. Plain text."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets the number of results
  • Shows the before/after shape
  • Keeps to this campaign
  • Bans hype
  • Asks for plain text
