About this exercise

Build a plain-text table with the header row exactly "Clause | What it says | Question for Legal" and three rows in the order given. "What it says" restates the clause in 20 words or fewer. The question ends with "?". Do not judge whether a clause is good, bad, risky or fair, and do not say what the customer must or should do. Plain text, under 150 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Adopting the sales view. The AI repeats "trap" or "standard". Try: Say: "Do not judge a clause; no good, bad, risky, fair or standard."
  • Concluding what applies. The AI says notice must be given by a date. Try: Say: "Restate only; do not say what anyone must do."
  • Long restatements. The AI copies the clause. Try: Say: "What it says: 20 words or fewer."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the header row is exactly 'Clause | What it says | Question for Legal' followed by three rows for 8.2, 9.1 and 12.3 in that order.
