Calculate GRR and NRR and exclude new-logo ARR
- For Executives
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Write three lines starting "GRR:", "NRR:" and "Excluded:" for the board. Show each calculation with the numbers and the percent, like "(A - B) / C = 90%". GRR excludes expansion; NRR includes expansion; neither includes new-logo ARR. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the logo count. Marketing's 96% looks like retention and the AI repeats it. Try: Say: "Revenue-based numbers only; ignore the 96%."
- Including new logos. The AI uses ending ARR 2,600,000 as part of NRR. Try: Say: "Neither includes new-logo ARR."
- Skipping the working. The AI gives only 90% and 105%. Try: Say: "Show the calculation with numbers."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
