About this exercise

Rewrite the clause as a four-sentence notice for admins. Each sentence is under 18 words, in everyday words. Do not use "pursuant", "hereinafter", "shall", "Provider" or "Customer Data". Say what changes and when. Then add the last line exactly: "Draft - Legal to review before sending." Plain text.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Keeping legal wording. The AI keeps "shall" and "Customer Data". Try: Say: "Everyday words; do not use pursuant, hereinafter, shall, Provider or Customer Data."
  • Dropping the date scope. The AI says the change applies to everyone. Try: Say: "Say it applies to subscriptions ending on or after Jan 1."
  • Adding hype. The AI repeats the AE's "big win". Try: Say: "Plain and factual, no hype."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has four sentences followed by the exact last line 'Draft - Legal to review before sending.'.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Sets four sentences
  • Bans the legalese
  • Gives the last line
  • Caps sentence length
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
