About this exercise

Rank the five accounts for next quarter's attention. Output a table with the header row exactly "Rank | Account | Score" and five rows. Score = ARR x risk multiplier (High 3, Medium 2, Low 1), written as a number like 120,000. Ties go to the higher ARR. After the table add a last line "Top focus:" followed by the rank 1 account. Plain text, under 55 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Ranking by ARR. The director's comment makes Birch first. Try: Say: "Rank by score = ARR x multiplier, not ARR alone."
  • Missing the tie-break. Cedar and Alder tie at 120,000. Try: Say: "Ties: higher ARR first."
  • Wrong scores or table. The AI miscalculates or adds columns. Try: Show the formula; exact header; table only.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
  • States the formula
  • Gives the tie-break
