About this exercise

The contract renews Mar 31, 2027. Build a table with the header row exactly "Date | Step | Owner" and three rows for 120, 90 and 60 days before renewal. Work out each date from the month lengths in the notes. The 60-day row must say to confirm the notice date with Legal. Do not state what the contract legally requires. Plain text, table only, under 70 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the teammate's date. The draft says Jan 29 and the AI repeats it. Try: Say: "Count back yourself; 60 days before Mar 31 is Jan 30."
  • Stating the legal position. The AI says the customer must give notice by Jan 30. Try: Say: "Say to confirm with Legal; no legal conclusions."
  • Wrong shape. The AI writes paragraphs. Try: Give the exact header and three rows.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
  • Asks for date counting
  • Routes to Legal
