About this exercise

Start with the line "For Hana - 4 p.m. call" on its own. Write a brief for Hana, the CEO, before her call with the customer. Exactly four lines starting "Bottom line:", "Confirmed:", "Disputed:" and "Say:". Compute the durations. Do not concede the customer's number and do not promise a credit. Plain text, under 85 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the status page time. The AI starts the clock at 03:05. Try: Say: "The contract measures from the first alert."
  • Conceding the credit. The AI says it will probably be paid. Try: Say: "Do not concede or promise the credit."
  • No computed durations. The AI says 'a bit under 3 hours'. Try: Say: "Compute both durations in hours and minutes."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the four labels
  • Mentions the contract's start point
  • Asks to compute the duration
  • Forbids promising credit
  • Asks for plain text
