Summarize this month's issues as biggest, rising and severe

  • For Product managers
  • You practice Saying who it's for
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Write three lines starting "Biggest:", "Rising fastest:" and "Severe but rare:". Biggest is the issue with the most tickets this month. Rising fastest has the largest percentage increase among issues that had tickets last month. Severe but rare is the issue marked High severity with fewer than 5 tickets. Put counts and the percentage in each line. Plain text, under 60 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using absolute change. The AI calls Slow search the fastest rising. Try: Say: "Rising fastest is the largest percentage increase."
  • Including the new issue as rising. The AI divides by zero or calls mobile sync +infinite. Try: Say: "Only issues that had tickets last month."
  • Skipping the counts. The AI names the issues without numbers. Try: Say: "Put counts and the percentage in each line."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the three labels
  • Defines each label
  • Asks for counts
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
