Work out a late-delivery credit with a per-day rate and a cap
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Compute the credit in exactly three lines starting "Days late:", "Cap:" and "Credit:". Show each as math, like "Nov 6 - Nov 2 = 4 days". Use the promised date and the delivered date from the system, not the customer's number. Credit is the lower of the daily amount and the cap. Plain text, under 50 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the customer's numbers. The customer says 5 days and $25 and the AI agrees. Try: Say: "Use the system dates. Credit is the lower of the daily amount and the cap."
- Forgetting the cap. The AI gives $20. Try: Say: "Cap = 20% of order value."
- Wrong layout. The AI writes a paragraph. Try: Name the three labels.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
- Names the labels
- Asks for the lower amount
