Check five serial numbers against recall ranges
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Advanced
About this exercise
Output a table with the header "Serial | Affected?" and five rows with Yes or No, then a last line starting "Next:" that tells affected customers exactly what the notice says. Ranges are inclusive. Do not describe any risk, injury or cause beyond the notice. Plain text, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Mishandling the edges. The AI treats end numbers as outside the range. Try: Say: "Ranges are inclusive."
- Adding safety claims. The AI says the kettle could be dangerous. Try: Say: "Say nothing about risk beyond the notice."
- Skipping the next step. The AI gives only the table. Try: Say: "End with a Next: line from the notice."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the table header
- Says ranges are inclusive
- Asks for the next line
- Asks for plain text
