Compute a prorated credit for removing seats mid-cycle
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Catching mistakes and made-up facts
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Start with the line "SEAT CREDIT - Blue Fern". Then write three lines starting "Per seat:", "Credit:" and "Applied to:" showing the arithmetic. The credit is account credit on the next invoice, not a refund to the card. Plain text, under 50 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Giving the full month. The AI credits $36. Try: Say: "Prorate by the 18 remaining days of 30."
- Refunding to the card. The AI says the credit goes back to the card. Try: Say: "Account credit on the next invoice only."
- Missing the title. The AI starts with the math. Try: Quote the title.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Quotes the title
- Names the three lines
- Asks to show the arithmetic
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
