About this exercise

Reply to Luisa in Spanish, using the formal "usted", then add an English line for your reviewer. Use two lines: one starting "ES:" (the reply, at most 45 words) and one starting "EN gist:" (one sentence saying what the Spanish promises). Plain text, and give the replacement shipping date, not the old one.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using informal tú. The AI defaults to a casual register. Try: Say: "Use formal usted."
  • Repeating the old date. The AI says Tuesday from her message. Try: Say: "Use the carrier's new estimate, Thursday Nov 7."
  • Promising delivery. The AI guarantees the date or skips the Friday fallback. Try: Say: "Pass on the carrier estimate and add the write-back-by-noon-Friday step."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the two line labels
  • Asks for formal usted
  • Gives the date to use
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
