Rewrite a handbook paragraph in plain language
- For HR and recruiting
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Rewrite the handbook paragraph for new hires in plain text as exactly five labeled lines, in this order: Mon to Thu:, Friday:, Client meetings:, Warehouse and production:, Ask the People Team:. Each line, label included, is under 15 words. Keep every rule and exception from the original and add no new rules. No title, no intro. HR reviews before publishing.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Own structure. The AI writes a paragraph or bullet list with a title. Try: Say: "Exactly five lines with these labels in this order."
- Dropping an exception. The AI shortens by cutting torn jeans or the warehouse rule. Try: Say: "Keep every rule and exception, each line under 12 words."
- Losing the accommodation line. The AI drops the last sentence. Try: Say: "Last line: religious and medical needs go to the People Team."
- Markdown. The AI bolds labels. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
