Announce one feature separately to admins and to end users

  • For Customer success managers
  • You practice Saying who it's for
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Intermediate

About this exercise

Write the announcement in two lines: "For admins:" (30 words or fewer) and "For end users:" (25 words or fewer). Mention the Nov 16 date in both. The admin line says what to do; the end-user line says only what they will receive and do. Do not mention the other audience in either line. Plain text.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Mixing audiences. The AI tells end users about the CSV upload. Try: Say: "Do not mention the other audience in either line."
  • Adding hype. The AI uses "biggest update of the year". Try: Say: "Plain and factual, no hype."
  • Dropping the date. The AI forgets Nov 16. Try: Say: "Mention Nov 16 in both lines."
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. The AI runs long and cannot count its own words. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 12 words") and add "under N words in total".
  • Leaving a requirement unstated. The AI follows its own defaults unless the prompt spells this out. Try: State it plainly in your prompt: the output has exactly two lines starting 'For admins:' and 'For end users:' and nothing else.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Names the two lines
  • Word caps
  • Mentions the date
  • Keeps audiences separate
  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a word cap
