About this exercise

Write a reminder message to the people under a legal hold, under 70 words, plain text. First line exactly: Reminder: legal hold still in effect. Mention the matter name and the date the hold was issued, ask them to reply "Confirmed" by Nov 20, and end with the line: Questions: Legal Ops, ext 4417. Do not describe what the dispute is about.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Dispute described. The AI adds the landlord's claim for context. Try: Say: "Do not describe what the dispute is about."
  • Missing reply request. The AI forgets the confirmation deadline. Try: Say: "Ask them to reply Confirmed by Nov 20."
  • Free-form opener. The AI writes Dear all. Try: Say: "First and last line exactly as given."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 15 words."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds words or adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Reply deadline
