Write three email preheaders that add new information
- For Small business owners
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You send three emails from Orchard Lane Market and each needs a preheader. Write a prompt for exactly 3 numbered preheaders in the order of the emails, each 60 characters or fewer including spaces, adding a fact that is not in that email's subject line and not repeating its first three words. Plain text, preheaders only.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Repeating the subject. The AI paraphrases the subject line. Try: Say: "Add a fact not in the subject; don't repeat its first three words."
- Going over 60 characters. Preheaders run long. Try: Say: "60 characters or fewer; aim for 50."
- Reusing the old preheader. The AI keeps the browser link line. Try: Ban it by name.
- Wrong number of items. AI adds extra items or drops the numbering. Try: Say the exact count and show the format, like "1. Label: detail".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets count and order
- Sets the character cap
- Requires new information
- Bans repeating the subject
- Asks for only the preheaders
