Recommend go or hold for a launch using must-have criteria
- For Product managers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes

About this exercise
A launch is set for Nov 15 and you need a go/no-go table. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Item | Status | Blocks launch?, one row per item, where an item blocks launch only if it is a must-have and its status isn't Done. Then one last line starting "Recommendation:" with Go or Hold, and the blocking items by name. Under 100 words, plain text apart from the table.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Going with momentum. The AI leans on the sponsor's comment. Try: Say: "An item blocks launch only if it is a must-have and not Done."
- Blocking on the press kit. The AI marks every not-done item as blocking. Try: Say: "Nice-to-haves never block."
- Missing the named blockers. The AI says 'Hold' with no list. Try: Say: "Name the blocking items on the Recommendation line."
- Letting markdown through. AI adds bold text and headings by default. Try: Add: "Plain text only, no bold, no headings."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the table columns
- Defines blocking
- Gives the final line
- Names blockers
- Caps length
