About this exercise

You manage the website for Bramble & Birch, a plant shop. Write a prompt for exactly 3 numbered meta descriptions, one per page below, each 150 characters or fewer including spaces and beginning with the page's target phrase word for word. Use only facts in the page summaries, and don't promise anything the shop doesn't offer. Plain text.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Going over the character cap. AI meta descriptions often run 160+ characters. Try: Add: "Each 150 characters or fewer; aim for 130."
  • Using shop facts from other pages. The AI adds free delivery or guarantees that aren't on the page. Try: Say: "Use only facts in that page's summary."
  • Burying the target phrase. The AI puts the phrase mid-sentence or swaps in synonyms. Try: Say: "Begin each description with the target phrase word for word."
  • Wrong number of items. AI adds extra items or drops the numbering. Try: Say the exact count and show the format, like "1. Label: detail".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and often runs past a word limit. Try: Cap each part (for example "each line under 15 words") so the total lands well under the limit.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Gives the count and numbering
  • Sets a character cap
  • Requires the exact phrase
  • Limits facts to the summaries
  • Bans promises
